We have heat!!!

So we took the RV to the dealer and were told it would be several days before they could work on it.  Then they realized we bought it from them in late December so we were moved to the front of the line.  They told us a tech worked on it for 8 hours and that there was a short near the control board.  We got a new thermostat and they corrected the short.  So we brought it home on Saturday.  So now the furnace works but I could not get any of the electrical stuff to work.  The TVs, fireplace etc. would not work.  By this time the dealer is closed until Monday so we continued packing and organizing with the idea we would call on Monday.  Maybe they could talk us through it on the phone.  Then today the idiot male owner of this RV discovered that while I run an electrical cord to the RV and plugged it into the power cord, I never plugged the power cord into the RV. Once I plugged that in all the power worked great.  What a moron!  I am grateful I did not call the dealer o they would be laughing for weeks.

Glass 1/2 to 3/4 full??

Thursday's plan was to go to a local campground, de-winterize the RV so we would have water and toilets.  Also we just wanted to stay in it for a night as a test.  We hooked up the Jeep to the back of the RV.  We are now 56 feet long! Once at the campground we began our process.  Back in to the site, hook up 50 amp electrical, hook up water, hook up water drain line.  We drained all the antifreeze and turned on the water.  Excellent.  We have electricity but the refrigerator does not seem to be cooling.  Microwave works.  Toilets do not flush properly so we refer o the manual to see what we did wrong.  It says there is a switch we need to turn on that will activate the vacuum system for the toilets.  Great, where is that??  Found it behind some towels we had hung turned it on and the vac system activates.  Great.  Bleed and fill the hot water tank and turn on the electric heat for that. Great. Now we notice that there is no display on the thermostat therefore we have limited heat in the unit and no heat to keep pipes from freezing.  It is supposed to get down to just below freezing to night.  This is a problem.  We have have this problem before so I change the fuse in the thermostat...pop!  I changed it again...Pop.  Called the RV dealer and spoke with one of the technicians.  Bottom line is to bring the unit in.  Well crap!  So we disconnect everything, drain as much water as we can and pull out of the camp ground.  But since we had paid for the night they said we would have one night free next time we are there.  We get to the RV dealer and they need the unit for several days.  Hopefully we get it back late Monday.
So we got some good things done, but not everything we were hoping for.  Plus we did not get to spend our first night in it.  I'll rate the day as a solid B.

Progress

Got the RV home and have begun loading it.  Figured out how the "office" will set up.  Also we have begun packing stuff to be stored.  The house is a mess!  Yesterday we drove over to Roanoke to visit Camping World.  What a great place!  They have stuff we have no idea what it is for...awesome.  We contracted with a mailing service in South Dakota.  We are not going to tell you what it is because we really don't want any snail mail.  If you want to get a hold of us call or e-mail.

Monday February 4,2013

After 2 separate trips by plane (Aruba and Minnesota) we finally got to drive the RV.  Started loading a few things in it like martini glasses and beer glasses...important stuff.  We also found out that a small beer growler fit in the refrigerator!!  Then we took it for a ride.  Drove out the Powhatan to look at a campground.  It was closed but we got to drive through.  It will be a good place for several nights while we prep the house for rent.  Then we drove to another one in Amelia.  It was open and we will definitely be using it in the April May time frame.

Between Powhatan and Amelia we drove on some very narrow roads.  It was great practice and I am getting much more at ease and confident driving it.  Di drove home on some secondary roads as well and is also gaining confidence.  We'll take it out 2 - 3 days a week, bring it home and continue loading.  The next big step is driving it while pulling the Jeep...that will be fun!
