IT IS HERE! IT IS HERE! IT IS HERE!!!

We picked up the RV today.  Took it to storage and will bring it home on Sunday.  Tomorrow is supposed to rain so we will undecorate the house from Christmas.  We are SOOO excited.  Below is a pic of all the paper that came with the RV.  The first real drive was during rush hour from the dealer to I-95 then to I-64 then to the storage area.  A little scary for a first drive.  Oh, by the way it was dark!  RV dealer said to plan on 3 - 4 hours at the dealership.  We were there 6!!  That was not even close to enough time.  We have a lot of learning to do.

Jeep Plates Arrive

Insurance

Spent most of the afternoon getting insurance quotes for the RV and the RV and Jeep combined.  What a pain and we are still not done.  History on our current policy initially showed a claim from 2011 that we never had.  Several phone calls and emails to get that straight.  Now we need to wait until Thursday for final approval.  Keep me calm, Lord!

The Jeep finally arrives

December 17, 2012
We went and picked up the Jeep today. All the towing equipment has been installed so that is ready to go.  We spent about an hour just learning the navigation and sound system.  So 3 weeks to the day after we bought it we got it.

At the dealer

Got a call this morning that the RV is at the dealers!!!  So we thought it was coming in mid February of '13, we will pick it up on December 28th!  So excited we can hardly stand it.

Di turns 62

Di's birthday was December 2. Got this great card from the Beatty's (actually Janice did it). So cute- I just love it!  A great thing about being 62 is that the National Park Service offers a lifetime membership for only $10!  Next time I am at a national park, I will get mine.

We are finally figuring out this blog stuff

After many false starts, we finally have the hang of it.  As you can see, we went back and updated some key events in the transition phase.  Hopefully we can keep it current from now on.

December 11 - Sold Bob's car

With the help of our neighbor (he really did all the work), we sold Bob's Hyundai today.  Bob really liked his car, but with tears in his eyes, he sold it to a young man who will hopefully take care of it.

December 3- &*(%$#*

Last Wednesday, we took the Jeep up to the RV dealer to get the front tow package put on.  Today we finally got the Jeep owners manual from the dealer where we bought the car.  In it it clearly states that the rear wheel drive model (the one we bought) cannot be dinghy towed!!!!! Made a quick call to the RV dealer and were relieved to find out that the parts had not arrived so no work had been done yet.  They think there is a way to make it work - we are hoping so as our other choice is to sell it and buy a 4 wheel drive model.  The Jeep dealer says they will do a trade in (which you know will cost us thousands of dollars, plus they don't have a used jeep that we want).

Next day - the RV dealer has done great research!  They contacted the jeep dealer to be sure that they had the right specs for the vehicle, then called the tow package company.  Bottom line is that by adding a pump to circulate the transmission fluid while being towed, we will be fine.  It will cost us a bit more, but not nearly as much as trading in the jeep for another one.

Great happy hour tonight!

November 26, 2012 Cars

After realizing we could not tow either of our current vehicles with all four wheels on the ground (dinghy towing), we realized we needed to buy a new car.  We did considerable research to find an automatic transmission vehicle that could be dinghy towed without any restrictions on how far or fast we could go.  There were 10 cars that fit that criteria-8 of which were Jeeps.  We ended up finding a red 2011 Jeep Liberty with only 17,000 miles on it, so we bought it.

October 12, 2012 - The Dream Begins!

Well after years of talking about it, we finally took the plunge and bought an RV.  The plan is to start RVing full time no later than June of 2013.  So between now and then we need to sell both our cars and buy a vehicle that can be towed on all four wheels, box up and store anything we want to keep, sell everything else and get a rental company to rent our house.  Such a short list for so much work!  We bought a Fleetwood Bounder model 35K - 36 feet long with 2 slideouts.  It is big but way smaller than our house.
